family news July 11th

We attached some pictures taken a couple of weeks ago when we went to Reach Falls. Notice the vines were just too inviting...

We have had a busy, full week. We certainly don’t get bored or wonder how to keep busy. We were happy to hear that one of our missionaries wasn’t hurt in an accident last week. They were walking to a teaching appointment when a car hit one of them so hard that it broke off the side mirror on the car. The missionary wasn’t seriously hurt—in fact the next morning was not even sore or bruised. She reported to the mission president that she reaped the blessing of the Lord watching over his missionaries.

Last Wednesday the Mission President, Assistants, and Office Elders were out at training meetings all day—trainers in the morning and then zone leader council. I worked on inputting baptisms, placed some distribution orders, and sent a letter to all the Branch and District Presidents. Of course, there are always lots of phone calls and emails to answer, too.

Thursday I had lots of referrals to get to the missionaries. The lady in New Jersey sent 12 that day. When the missionaries started calling them, the people said they were expecting the call, their cousin had been telling them about the missionaries. All but one set teaching appointments, and one asked if she could bring her grandchildren.

I ordered a replacement copy of a patriarchal blessing for one of the missionaries. After a few calls to Salt Lake City I concluded my instruction sheet was out-of-date.

The next challenge of the day was to see why a credit card payment for some airline tickets didn’t go through. After several emails and then phone calls to the Area financial office we discovered the airline had mistyped the security code. So we called and asked the airline to correct the code and the charge finally cleared. Interestingly, the airline is in Turks and Caicos, the Area finance department is in the Dominican Republic and I am in Jamaica. Gratefully the man in the Area office spoke English.

We heard from the senior missionaries in Ocho Rios that a man stopped them to say he dreamed they preached to him the night before. They got his name and number so the young missionaries could call and teach him. This reminded me of the experience my dad had on his mission in the Southern States. He was also stopped by a man who said that he dreamed that Dad would be getting off a certain train, so went and met him. Dad was asked to conduct a funeral though that day, the people were already assembled.

We did some laundry and cleaning before doing our grocery shopping Saturday. Then we worked in the mission office since we took off half a day Monday for the 4th of July.

On our drive to Yallahs Sunday morning we saw where the road eroded on the opposite side of the road. We made a point to steer clear on our way home where there is now a big half circle piece gone on the Caribbean side of the road. Of course, it is on a big cliff, too. That would be very dangerous to happen upon! We had several investigators back at church—6 in Primary. The keyboard wouldn’t work—a short in the cord I think—so we had to sing a Capella. We visited three sisters after Branch Council meeting. One gave me two orchids to enjoy. She just asked that I bring them back after they are finished blooming. We also got two mangos from branch members that were new varieties for us--one beefy mango and one East Indies mango. They were delicious! We got home about 6 and invited the Smiths to join us for dinner. We had a rotisserie chicken, vegetables, and a cabbage and apple salad. They brought mashed potatoes, cantaloupe, and mango/banana/pineapple smoothies. We decided that is a great way to fix and eat dinner!

We always look forward to family emails and phone calls. We love you all very much.
