Tuesday, August 1st

Paul and Shirleen went to their usual Church Service Missionary assignment at Family Services (in Mesa, basically 4-8pm).

Wednesday, August 2nd

Amelia had borrowed our 2008 Buick (while the G's van is in the body shop).  So, Paul drove our 1997 Buick to pick up Lizzie from the school bus stop.  "Brownie" (as this vehicle is known) died near the bus stop.  The battery is not the problem, but he could not get it started,  so, Paul & Lizzie walked to the G's home, and he went back to Brownie, called AAA for a tow, and waited.  The tow came, Paul was dropped off at home, and the Buick was taken to our usual repair place.  Paul had called them, so they knew what to expect.

Friday, August 4th

Paul and Shirleen served as ordinance workers on their usual morning shift at the Mesa Temple.

Saturday, August 5th

The first day of our 2-day stake conference.  Paul attended the priesthood leadership session at 3pm, then Paul, Shirleen, Bryce, and Amelia attended the adult session at 6pm.  Both of these sessions were at the stake center.

Sunday, August 6th

Paul, Shirleen, Bryce, Amelia, and B&A's five children attended the general session of stake conference at the InterStake Center (which is not far from the Mesa Temple).  Interestingly, Michael's stake is responsible for the audio-visual part of our stake conferences, and Michael operates the various cameras that are used for projecting onto a number of screens in different places in the building.  B&A's children were able to go back to the control room and see him.

Thursday, August 10th

Amy, LeAnn, and Shirleen went out to look at new cars.  Paul joined in later, as one particular vehicle became increasingly interesting.

Friday, August 11th

Paul and Shirleen served on their usual Friday morning shift at the Mesa Temple.  Amy had the 1997 Buick LeSabre, which stalled out on her.  After leaving the temple, Paul arranged for it to be towed back to our house.  Paul & Shirleen obtained a large enough cashier's check to pay the balance on a 2022 Buick Envision.  LeAnn provided transportation to the Honda dealership (who happened to be the ones with the Buick).  The car was paid for; various warranty plans were purchased, and the Envision became ours.  Here we are, back home:

Saturday, August 12th

Shirleen, Jim, Irene, Karen, and Mark drove to Thatcher for the funeral service of Dennis Lunt.  Paul substituted for Jim at the Mesa Temple.

Tuesday, August 15th

Paul and Shirleen went to their usual Church Service Missionary assignment at Family Services (in Mesa, basically 4-8pm).

Wednesday, August 16th

"Brownie", our 1997 Buick, was towed away on this date.  In this case the car is being donated under a program to benefit A New Leaf, a charitable organization we support.

Later in the day, James, Lizzie, Maylee, Karsten, and Melody were at our house when the rains came. It was (as demonstrated!) an enjoyable event for these five grandchildren:
