The Passing of Jeannette Lunt Lines

Jeanne passed away on the 15th of October, 2024.  Her obituary is found here.

Paul & Shirleen, Michael & LeAnn, and Amelia flew to Salt Lake City on Sunday, October 27th, picked up a rental car, drove to Springville, and checked in here:

We attended the viewing that evening.  The funeral service was held the next morning at the same location, here, in this building:

Those familiar with the Provo area may recognize the Brigham Young University "Y" on the mountain.

Following the chapel funeral service we drove to the Provo Cemetery for the burial services and dedication of the grave.  Here are some representative photographs:

From the cemetery we returned to the chapel for a luncheon.

And then we returned to Salt Lake City for a flight back to Phoenix.

A very worthwhile trip to honor Jeanne.

Thoughts and Observations from Shirleen's Journal

... We made it to SLC safely, rented a car and drove to Provo, where we picked up the groceries LeAnn's nephews had purchased for us on Saturday so we didn't have to go out or shop on the Sabbath.  We cooked frozen dinners in our hotel room and had fruit and cheese.  Then we went to the viewing for my sister Jeanne. Her girls had put together a very nice display.  All their children and Leo greeted those who came to the viewing.  Jeanne was dressed in her temple robes and was holding the handkerchief Mom made for her wedding.  It was a joy to know she has made covenants that will permit her to return to the presence of the Lord and that we will have the opportunity to be together again.  Annette & Grant Hunter, May Lynn & Christian Degn, Jonna Mortensen, Rob & Lisa Hunter, Ethan (Eric's son) Hunter, Preston (April's son) Fitzgerald, Todd (Laura Lee's son) & his wife Andrea Lainhart, Jim & Irene Lunt, Colleen Miller and her daughter Madison, Shannon Jensen, Janae Samuelson, Evan Lunt and his daughter Rachel, Lisa Barney, and Dave & Lani Lunt were there, and many friends of Jeanne’s and Leo’s.  It  was good to be there.

The next morning we went to the funeral for my sister, Jeanne.  We visited with family at the visitation before the funeral service.  Dave gave a beautiful family prayer after they closed the casket.  The funeral was very touching.  Kim and Anjie gave the life story.  Then all the children except Brad spoke, sharing memories and things they learned from their mother.  Kaari played a beautiful Christmas medley on the piano, since Jeanne loved Christmas.  Leo told how they met and experiences they shared.  The bishop gave a nice talk on the plan of salvation.  The stake president’s counselor mentioned that he was impressed by the legacy Jeanne had left, since each of her children bore testimony of the gospel truths she had taught.  He also quoted Elder Hales' General Conference talk October 2024.  “Mortality Works.  It is designed to work.  Despite the challenges, heartaches and difficulties we all face, our loving, wise and perfect Heavenly Father has designed the plan of happiness such that we are not destined to fail."  They included the hymns I Believe in Christ and I Know That My Redeemer Lives, which were both in our mother’s funeral service twenty years ago.  Rob Hunter and MayLynn Degn gave the prayers.  We went to the Provo City cemetery for her burial.  Rick conducted and Jim dedicated the grave.  I told her family how we had included 6 yellow daisies (one for each of her children) and 13 orange carnations (one for each grandchild) in the casket spray.  They each took one and I think they dropped them into her grave.  We took family pictures (but missed Dave & Lani who had to leave early) and went back to the church for a nice luncheon of green salad, rolls and soup.  Annette and I each wore our “three sisters” pin today.  We will miss our younger sister until we can meet again.  It was nice to see so many family members.  We see the Lunt cousins more than the Lewis ones.  I remember seeing Susanne & Pete Peterson, Randall & Joan Lunt, Ethelyn and her brothers Mark & Brent Lunt, Beth & Keith Hansen and their daughter Angie, Gail & JR Thompson, Rick Lewis, Sandra Layton and her Sister Mary and Brother Ken, Carrie Lewis Meacham and her brother Stephen, David Harris and his sister Shauna & her husband Vic.  I think it was evidence of how Jeanne and our mother touched many in the family.  Some of the cousins may have been to the viewing the night before, too.  Mike, Amy, and LeAnn hiked a bit of the trail to the Y before we drove back to the airport in SLC and flew home.  It was a quick trip but I am so glad we could go.  I appreciated the support of Mike, LeAnn and Amy and I am grateful they made the effort to go with us.
