Monday, October 18th
Amy came by to help Shirleen with the quilt. Paul took Melody and James to the Emerald Park playground while they worked on the quilt.
After the Griners went home, Shirleen finished tying the quilt and bound it. It took over an hour and a half to sew after it was pinned and ready. It is a big quilt!
That evening we got together for an online Family Home Evening with Amy & Bryce & kids, Michael & LeAnn, and Sarah & Craig (3 locations in AZ, 1 in Colorado). Maylee did the lesson from the Friend magazine, Karsten played the piano as Lizzie led us in singing "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet". Melody welcomed us and conducted. A nice way to gather!
Tuesday, October 19th
We drove to Amy & Bryce's home so that Shirleen could watch the kids while Amy had an appointment. Shirleen and Melody went to work on a jigsaw puzzle:
Paul then took Melody to preschool and Shirleen indexed while James napped. He went back to Amy's to get Shirleen, and we did some shopping before going home. Paul picked up Melody, and took her home while Shirleen took a nap. That evening, Paul went again to Amy's, picked up Lizzie, and took her to her violin lesson (he stayed there for the lesson). Then, he took Lizzie home, and he went home. Lots of trips to help family today! Shirleen spent lots of time looking for a needle that slipped off the thread where she was working on finishing the corners on the quilt binding. Last night she stopped sewing when she was tired and left the needle in the quilt. Then today it was nowhere to be found. She certainly didn't want it left in the quilt where it could hurt someone, so carefully looked and felt for the needle. She moved the quilt off the table, moved the table, swept the floor, and still couldn't find it. After praying and looking again on the floor all around, she found it on the opposite side of the table than where she had shaken out the quilt. She immediately gave a prayer of thanks. It was Tanya's birthday today and Shirleen had a nice text visit with her.
Wednesday, October 20th
Amy came by with James and Melody in the morning. James stayed with us while Amy took Melody to a preschool outing at Mother Nature's Farm. Paul got a quote to fix the left-side passenger window in our 1997 Buick (no longer responding to driver or passenger control switches): Hundreds of $ for a new window motor! Declined, but did ask about what a refurbished motor would cost: Still a few hundred $! No more open-window breezes for driver-side, back-seat passengers in that car! Paul helped a new family, the Bensons, move into the neighborhood. They are just west of the Singleton's. Shirleen started soaking her hand in epsom salts since she has an infection along the left side of her index fingernail.
Thursday, October 21st
Paul picked up Melody for preschool. We both picked her up from preschool, and then drove her home. Then we went to Tempe for Shirleen to have an appointment that will lead to having dental appliances that (hopefully) will mean she no longer will need to use a CPAP machine. She is no longer using her CPAP machine because it is being recalled. She still has it, but according to recall information it is not to be used until it is repaired or replaced. Her neurologist referred us to the dentist to try the mouth guard, and also gave her a prescription for a new CPAP machine if the mouth guard doesn't work. The dentist said they are successful with 80% of people, so we hope we are in that group. After soaking her hand again today, it is still pretty sore.
Friday, October 22nd
We went to A&B's in the morning to watch Melody and James while they went to the Phoenix Temple to be with Bryce's family as a nephew received his endowment prior to serving a mission. We got to spend time with Lizzie, Karsten and Maylee after they got home from school. We love being able to spend time with our grandchildren. We shopped at Superstition Ranch Market on the way home.
Saturday, October 23rd
We went to the Home Storage Center to re-stock a couple of items. We saw a family there that we met at stake conference in August. He is from Jamaica. We had planned on getting together but must have written his phone number down wrong. We were very happy to see them again and corrected their number so we can connect again. We also stopped at Princess Deli where we used to get lunch each time we were serving at Family Services. They have the best humus we have ever tasted. After Shirleen's nap, she visited the Heitkotters, Mays, and Coltons to invite them to the Mesa Az Temple Open House.
Sunday, October 24th
Paul went to a stake meeting at 7 am. The primary focus of the meeting was regarding a Covenant Path program for accelerating the progress of new converts. Paul then drove to pick up Shirleen so that we could attend A&B's ward for their Sacrament Meeting Primary Program. We enjoyed watching Karsten, Maylee, and Melody in the program. We returned home, and later attended our own ward. That evening Michael & Leann, Amy & Bryce, and their five children gathered with us at our home for dinner. The kids were excited to see the Halloween and fall decorations. A favorite is the ghost that responds to sound (so lots of clapping to start it going). This flag was placed outside our house in commemoration of the Halloween season:
