 The pictures are:
·         Why is Grandpa parked on the sidewalk?  The parking lot at Chilitos was full.  This is really not uncommon in Kingston.
·         Grandpa in the tree-lined entry to Hope Gardens.
·         The beautiful Hope Garden drive.
·         Grandma choosing vegetables at the Papine vegetable market.  Note the sign on the wall.

This week was transfers.  Monday we met Elder Ngubane, our first missionary from Africa.  He speaks 5 languages, is the only member in his family, and joined the church just three years ago.

Tuesday morning I made waffles for the Office Elders, Assistants, and people who work in the same building with us—CES director, Physical Facilities, and Church Service Center Director.  Everyone likes the tradition of waffles on “Transfer Tuesday”.  That night we stopped at Chilitos for tacos, another tradition—“Taco Tuesday”.

Wednesday we sent all the mail and supply orders to transfers with the Office Elders.  All the Zone Leaders meet in Spanish Town with those being transferred and their companions, then get with their new Zone Leaders and head to their new assignments.  We saw some missionaries who used to work with us in the office when they stopped by on their way to transfers.  It was a busy, exciting day.  That evening they changed the beeper system that we use to open the doors at the mission office.  The transmitters we had before had a very limited range and sometimes it was difficult to get the door open.  Now it works much better.  The only downside is the beep is much higher pitched and lasts much longer.

Thursday we were thrilled to hear that Aunt Annette and Uncle Grant received their mission call to the Washington Everett Mission and report on January 9th.  We have seen the need for senior missionaries.  They will bless the lives of those they work with and be wonderful examples to their family.

Friday the power went off a couple of times in the mission office.  It was off two hours the first time and then, about an hour later, we lost it for another hour.  I had to type one baptism record three times to actually get it entered, since each time I had it almost ready to save, the power went out.  During the first outage we went and did errands since there isn’t much you can do without electricity.  We found the problem covered several blocks in New Kingston when we saw the street lights out.

Saturday we went back to Hope Gardens to see the progress on their restoration project, and then we stopped at the vegetable market in Papine on our way to the bookstore at the University of West Indies.  We found a copy of Gone is the Ancient Glory:  Spanish Town, Jamaica¸1534-2000, by James Robertson, a professor at UWI we met in the Miami airport on our way to Jamaica.

Yesterday we attended our meetings in Yallahs.  We were happy to have some come who haven’t for awhile.  We practiced our Primary Sacrament Meeting program and I taught three keyboard lessons.  Then we visited two families to invite them to participate in the Primary program and give them their parts.  We got home late, so we ate dinner and then listened to the First Presidency Christmas Devotional.  It is even starting to look like Christmas here as we see Christmas lights around town.

Love,
Grandma and Grandpa
