Dear family,
The attached picture shows Elder Daniels in front of our meetinghouse in Yallahs. The grass is in need of a “yard chop”. Next week it should look much different after someone works it over with his machete. (We put a keyboard on a small table just behind Elder Daniels for me to accompany the congregational singing for Sacrament Meeting. Behind the arched window you can see a rectangular window. There is a three foot walkway between the two windows. The room is too small for the piano to be inside, so we just open the windows. The carport is used for youth Sunday School class and then Priesthood meeting.)
We had a busy week at the office. Not much out of the ordinary though. Saturday we drove to Spanish Town to meet with a former landlady. She thinks we left her place in worse shape than when we rented it, but most of the damage was due to water leaking from the neighbors and rodents. We took the two missionaries who went with us to lunch. They loved that! After getting back to Kingston, we did our grocery shopping and laundry. I was up much later than I planned because I forgot and left the water heater on while the dryer was going and it tripped the circuit breaker. So the clothes weren’t dry when I checked them after I broke away from typing the Primary Sacrament Meeting presentation.
Sunday we had a good attendance at our meetings. Brother Brown gave a talk for the first time. Sister Loague (who loans us orchids) also spoke. Their talks were from articles in the Liahona (the church magazine here). We also heard from one of our young adults and one of the missionaries. We had seven in Primary. Sister Lofters gave the lesson on “accountability” that was very apropos since we had one of the children baptized last week and three others are preparing to be baptized. I taught two piano lessons while Elder Daniels had interviews and meetings. We went with the missionaries to check a home where we are fixing the roof and then visited two families they are teaching. One is a family who used to come to church about six months ago. The adults and their two grandsons were very happy to see us. The boys used to come into Primary with me. Alexander turns ten next week, and was happy to tell us he won the reading competition in his school. Gregory (6) let us know he is the best speller in his class. I invited them to come and participate in the Primary program. We didn’t get together with the Smith’s for dinner since we were an hour later getting home than they were.
Today we discovered that the computer we received last week (after paying a hefty COD payment) should have been shipped to another island. We didn’t order it, so I called church headquarters to see who was supposed to receive it. They said they would research it and get back to me. Today they said the physical facilities manager here in Jamaica ordered it. When he denied ordering it, I asked the people in Salt Lake City for the invoice and more documentation. Then we discovered that it should have been shipped to Trinidad. So now we have more paperwork to get things straightened out.
We were happy to receive the pictures of Mandi’s wedding. Thanks, Bruce. We wish Mike & LeAnn and Amy & Bryce belated “happy anniversary”. With Dave’s birthday and weddings, Nov 11th is very memorable. We were happy to hear that Lauralee and Eli have a new baby boy.
