Dear Family,

We had another busy week at the mission office. I had several immigration papers to process. I sent Bahamas immigration forms to the new couple coming in June via FedEx. They completed them and returned them via FedEx and I was surprised that we got them to Minnesota and back to Jamaica faster than we got papers from Jamaica to the Cayman Islands! We aren’t sure if they will serve in the Bahamas or here in Jamaica, so I’m doing immigration for both countries. Elder Daniels sent some money to the Elders off-island so they could submit the immigration papers for processing. We are still amazed how many details there are to accomplish some of these responsibilities.

I worked on final baptism certificates for the Elders who go home this next Thursday. We list the people they taught and baptized, where they live, and the baptism date. I made up several New Member Packets this week and got to send a letter to the First Presidency for President Hendricks. There were also more orders to Distribution Center and some orders we received to get out to the missionaries. I bought another crocheted necklace from one of the Jamaican sisters here. They are very colorful and are not hot to wear.

Thursday the Assistants to the President had an interesting service opportunity—they chopped down a tree for a lady using machetes! They said it had about a 1 ½-2 foot diameter trunk. The puppets for the Humanitarian presentations were at the office on Friday and the missionaries had lots of fun putting up the puppet stage and playing with the puppets. They are anxious to find a school so they can do presentations for some of their service.

Saturday we helped the Humanitarian missionaries transport bee boxes to people who are going to receive five beehives and five additional boxes as part of the Food Initiative Program. They stack the boxes and in a couple of months they can separate them to have ten hives. The Flakes also took their pickup and between the two of us we moved 45 bee boxes. We went to some very remote areas where the people are going to have their bees. This next week the Schaefermeyers will transport the bees at night. Since you can’t stack the boxes containing bees they needed help getting all the boxes distributed. After all the boxes were delivered we picked up the Andersens in Mandeville and drove to Lovers Leap, with a spectacular view of the cliff and sea below, and then to Treasure Beach. We had delicious pizza with a view of the sea. All of us ladies waded in the surf and I found a little conch shell. We delivered mail to the missionaries along the way so were able to see Sister Speakman (our Stake President’s daughter) for the first time since we have been in Jamaica. We enjoyed being able to be with the other couples and seeing parts of Jamaica we hadn’t been to before.

Today we were back on the road to Yallahs. We had a nice testimony meeting. Elder Huffaker said goodby since he goes home this week. He has been serving in Yallahs ever since we got here. We will miss him. We visited with a couple of members before driving back to Kingston. One lady wants help to replace her roof. Her home was destroyed by fire, so all that remains are the block walls and cement floor. She has been living in a little room made of plywood on the veranda. It is humbling to see how many of the people here live.

We included pictures of us transporting the bee boxes, by Lovers Leap, and some beautiful flowers (I was surprised that the different colors were all on the same plant). We love you all very much.
